"DIRTY SHOES, BALLS & OLD SONGS"

"Canja Rave are a big-sound duo who wear rock references in spades - drawing comparisons to Raveonettes, Pixies and Sonic Youth at their SXSW debut last year."
(Shelley Lee Jones - Huck Magazine - London, U.K)

"If The White Stripes had made some babies, Canja Rave would be the black sheep of the family."
(Flo Hayler - Visions Magazine, Fritz Radio, and owner of The Ramones Museum - Berlin, Germany)

"…this is the same composition as another famous band, and make the obvious observation that the primary difference is that Canja Rave has a drummer that can actually play drums… big garagey sound, huge for a two-piece and a hell of a stage presence…"
(Ryan Cooper - Punk Music Guide - Detroit, U.S.A)

"Canja Rave makes rock music full of personality, with creative sounds and lyrics."
(Cinthya Oliveira - Jornal Hoje em Dia - Belo Horizonte, Brazil)

Bold and fun. Tough and funny. Loud and heartfelt. Paula Nozzari and Chris Kochenborger form Canja Rave, a powerful and melodic rock duo for whom no obstacle is big enough to detract them from the commitment to live life thru their music.

Following their intense and successful touring of the US and Europe between 2008 and 2010, and their move to Europe in 2011, Canja Rave begins 2012 by releasing their third album, "Dirty Shoes, Balls and Old Songs", recorded at their new base town of Berlin, Germany, and mixed in the US, at the Nuthouse Recording, NJ. The album contains 9 new original songs featuring Paula's quintessential power drumming and Chris' to the point guitar riffs, all sustaining catchy melodies and English lyrics ranging from sarcastic social and political comments ("Never Ready for a War") to endearing ("Ducks") and humorous ("So Lucky") introspective snapshots with a twist, often inspired by the band's unusual experiences during their US tours ("Accident"). The album was produced and recorded by New York based producer Alvaro Alencar, who has been awarded 10 Latin Grammy awards to date, and works eclectically with artists from all origins and styles.

"Dirty Shoes, Balls and Old Songs" powerful sounding tracks with their natural ambiences and original sonic signature reflect the live energy that elevates the spirit of the fans in Canja's live performances. Chris' vocals are edgy, as is his guitar sound, and Paula brings along with her no nonsense power drumming the beautiful countermelodies which she performs on the melodica. As a lonely and very inspired outside contribution, the title track brings in Hique Gomez and his enticing violin which boldly challenges the main melody in a sonic rush of energy.

Canja Rave's 2008 debut album, "Da Canja a Rave" (Portuguese lyrics) and its follow-up release "Badango" (also with Portuguese lyrics and produced by Detroit icon Jim Diamond of The White Stripes fame) were the previous landmarks in a 6 years career that took the band to over 200 live performances, in 3 continents, over 100 of them in the USA (30 states and 23,000 km, plus Canada). In Europe, CR performed in England, Germany, Scotland, Spain, France, The Netherlands, Norway, Czech Republic, Italy, Ireland, Switzerland... and of course they found some time to perform in their homeland Brazil..

Extensive touring and 3 albums in 4 years are not the only feat in Canja Rave's joyful ride. The band received two prizes in 2010, from the Sonicbids website for South by Southwest and for Songwriting at The Music Think Tank Festival in Milan, Italy, and were also acclaimed by many fans and supporters in multiple festival appearances: Dfest 2009 (Tulsa - Oklahoma), South by Southwest - SXSW 2009 and 2010 (Austin - Texas), United Islands 2011 (Praha - Czech Republic), Liverpool Sound City 2009 and 2011 (Liverpool - UK), The Music Think Tank 2010 (Milan - Italy), The Metro Times Blowout 2010 (Hamtramck - Detroit, Michigan), Motorcity Special #1 (Detroit, Michigan), Grito Rock 2009 and 2011 (South America), Rec Beat 2007 (Recife - Brazil), Fête de La Musique 2011 and 2012 (Berlin - Germany).

With the new record ready to be delivered to the fans, Canja Rave is eager to show their recent explorations in the one place they feel truly at home: on the road.

BERLIN - LAST SHOW IN 2011!

Our last show in 2011 was in a place that we love, not only to play but also to go with good friends, to drink and eat...and to get a tattoo!
It was our second show of the year there... The good thing of playing close to our home is that many personal friends have the chance to see us play!

The White Trash really has the best hamburger in town (vegetarian and meat)...hummmm.
It was the last show of the "Badango" tour and the first time we played several songs from the new album: "Dirty Shoes, Ball and Old Songs"!!
These two on the left, bought the "Badango" vynil and cd...thanks guys! See you in the next show.
In the same night there was also a fashion show: Junker Designs from Los Angeles.

Several known rockers wear their clothes, as Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, Lenny Kravitz and others.
DJ Rock'n'rolla Pigbeats to continue the party!

BASEL, IT'S ROCK!

In Basel we definitely did the most rock'n'roll show of the tour and it was great to meet and be able to share the stage with The Jackets and Shady and the Vamp.

We played in The Twäng Däng Däng Surf Garage Punk Festival at Hirscheneck!!

The super cool art on the poster was done by the Brazilian artist Koostella.

In fact, this country has not only surprised by the beauty and quality of life, but also by the quality of the bands!

About the bands that played.

The place where the festival took happened is very cool, because they use a collective policy. There is no boss and all the people who work there alternate their functions.
On arrival a big bucket of coffee with chocolate cake with the sound of a cello!
And to our joy, unlike some European countries, Switzerland has not been contaminated by this wave of electronic music! Rock!
The house has several floors and is 1300 and something years of age! Super old! The shows are in the underground floor, in the central floor is the restaurant and coffee, and at the top are the rooms where the bands sleep!
The shows were really great, we had lots of fun!
Really good bier, snacks at the soundcheck, after a delicious dinner and the next day, before each band went back on the road, we could enjoy an excellent breakfast!

The bands!

And as always a basic walk through the city before returning to Berlin!
Também depois dessa turnê gastronômica na Suíça...

THUN @ SWITZERLAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This blog is not a tourism blog. We talk about the places where we play with Canja Rave, however there are places that we like to talk about more. We were quite impressed with the beauty of this town.
Surely, this is one of the most beautiful cities I've ever had the opportunity to know. That's why I love my band, because thanks to it, I have these rare opportunities! Whether it's a totally rock'n'roll show or a more acoustic performance, knowing new places is always a great pleasure for us.

I would like to understand why some people have the priviledge of being born in a place like this! They live in a postcard!
Our second show in Switzerland was in Thun ... It is very close to Bern.
Look at the Alps back there!
As usual, during the day we walked around the city, because the show was at night.
Lake Thun!
Beautiful sunset!

Chris, are you Valderrama???? hahahahaha.
"Apfelstrudel" - "Jorgito" part 1!The acoustic show was at Mundwerk Bar!! I played my "baby" washboard, melodica and singed, of course! The place was incredible: a kind of medieval tavern made of stone!
Actually, the drums would be too loud there!
The show was really cool for a super polite and friendly audience, mostly very young! Nobody talked between songs while we played! We have made many friends there and we are sure we will return soon ... maybe next time with the drums!

The joy of returning to the hotel after the show and seeing such beauty was priceless! The square where our hotel was at the night. Wow!
Our Hotel - medieval building! The next day, we woke up with a beautiful sunny day! From the hotel window we could see a very cool fair that was happening on the square in front of the hotel! Christmas crafts, foods, winter clothing, candles, theater, music...
Behind the hotel, the Thun Castle!
Thun Castle (Schloss Thun) was built by Berchtold V in 1186 and is fully maintained.
Climbing up the stairs to the castle drinking a "Guaraná" from Brasil (pra matar a saudade!).
Swiss Hot Chocolate: "Jorgito" part 2!!

Switzerland is a country that not only impresses you by its beauty, but mainly for its education, culture and many friendly people. In fact a country with four official languages and an incredible quality of life, could not be different.
It must be nice to be duck here! Look at the color of the water!

"Where the ducks go in the winter?"...... that is a chorus of a song from the new album, "Ducks"!
After an incredible day that was not "rock'n roll" at all, time to take the train to Basel, because a rock night awaits for us! This is Canja Rave!

Thun Bye-bye! Tchau! Auf Wiedersehen! Espero poder voltar logo logo para esse lugar!!
